Classic Jukeboxes - a few thoughts.
So you are thinking of buying a restored golden age jukebox, (1932 to approx 1952), or silver age jukebox, (approx 1952 to approx 1963), or something later. A CD player perhaps?
Well to start with jukeboxes do go UP in value! So if you invest in a beautiful well looked after or restored classic jukebox now and continue to look after it, it will appreciate as an asset over time. How much, will depend on rarity and condition; just the same as any collectable item. At worst your jukebox will retain much better value than any hi-fi system you are likely to buy at a similar price.
A bottle of fine wine may well prove to be a good investment, but it does not add much to the environment aesthetically and you cannot drink it if you keep it as an investment. Jukeboxes were made to work for their living and even the older ones need to be played regularly, so whilst this investment is increasing in value you can have plenty of fun at the same time. More problems are caused by older jukeboxes not being played than being overplayed. Strange, you may think, but true.
What about the quality of the music, you may ask? We say that a vinyl record played through a valve amplifier produces a fullness of sound that no CD can match.
